Who's behind Little Bookworms Family?

Hello, my name is Alice! I'm French (from France) and I'm the mother of two little French-Canadian girls: Miss J. born in 2018 and and little miss E. born in 2020.

My love of books began when I was very young and was passed on to me by my parents, who love to read!

I remember my teenage summers when my dad would take me to the library, and I'd beg him to take me again the next day because I'd already finished the 5 books I'd just borrowed.

I remember sleepless nights trying to finish the latest Harry Potter book, or the bookshelfs at my cousins' vacation home, filled with "Club des 5" and "6 compagnons", which I read over and over again until I knew them by heart!

Even today, I find it hard to go to bed without reading to escape, and I close my book, sometimes with regret, telling myself that the next day I have two children who will wake me up, and that the time for long nights of reading is over (for now)!

I did a business school in Lyon, France. During my studies, I worked as a sales assistant in a children's bookshop. The store was heaven for me! My dream was to buy this bookshop because I loved books and this store so much.

But life decided otherwise.

After graduating, I moved to Canada, where I met my husband! We lived in Montreal (Quebec), Kingston (Ontario), Ottawa (Ontario), Lyon (France) and now back in Ottawa.

Our two daughters were born in Ottawa in 2018 and 2020. We moved 2 weeks before my eldest daughter was born. Throughout my pregnancy, I was frustrated not to be able to set up a nursery, to take care of the decor since we knew we were moving. So I bought children's books and imagined reading them to my daughter.

From an early age, we read books to her at bedtime. She could spend long minutes completely captivated by the images, shapes and colors that came to life before her eyes.

Each of the life changes we go through is accompanied by reading, whether for me or for my daughters. During my 3 expatriations (China, Australia and Canada), I prepared myself by reading novels about the country, travelogues and tourist guides. When I found out I was going to be a mother, I bought books on motherhood. When my eldest daughter began to have emotions that took up a lot of space, I used books to help me and her, when my second daughter was born, when we moved to a new house, to a new country... for me, books are the best tools to accompany us in our daily lives.

Books have always been an integral part of our (family) life. Before naptime, before bedtime, when traveling, during a quiet moment... the best way to keep the girls occupied is to make them a big pile of books, and you don't hear them for long minutes!

Alongside my love of books, I'm a huge second-hand addict (and even more so now that I have kids). Clothes for me or for the girls, all the baby equipment I've ever needed, games, and especially books, absolutely everything. I love bargain hunting, searching for the rare gem and giving a second life to an object that has already lived.

When I was a little girl, I used to love going with my grandmother to flea markets in the summer, where we always found treasures.

Little Bookworms Family combines my two passions: my love for children's literature and thrifting.

Little Bookworms Family's mission is to find you beautiful books for young and older children.
